Don took us on a photo tour of some of the world’s most famous churches and several interesting but lesser known churches as well,  He also provided some history lessons along with other interesting trivia.  David Foote shared that he has also visited many of these churches and sites.

Member Tidbits:

• Art & Gene celebrated their 53^rd anniversary.  Also visited with a grand-niece hiking the Appalachian Trail as she passed through TN.
• John just returned from an 1100 mile motorcycle ride to FL with Charlie Bernard and others from the church. Sue was the smart one – she made the trip in a car!

 Club All-Time Giving to TRF Exceeds $100,000

It seems appropriate that the Rotary Club of Tellico Lake would reach an “all-time giving” milestone during The Rotary Foundation Centennial year. As of early May, our Club has given $100,011 in total donations to The Rotary Foundation over not quite 12 years of the Club’s existence. Very impressive for a small club currently at 21 members.  Year-to-date, our TRF donations already total $5,000. Thanks to all and keep it up!

2017 Jackson B. Richard Memorial Scholarship

Meet the 2017 recipient of our Jackson B. Richard Memorial Scholarship, Daniel Berl Summers.  Daniel is a proud graduate of Greenback High School.  Maggie and Jo represented our club at the Greenback graduation ceremonies on Friday, May 12. We all wish this remarkable young man a successful future as he pursues a Computer Engineering degree at Tennessee Tech.

Atlanta Convention News

RI President John Germ announced that Bill Gates will speak on Monday, June 12, during the second general session at the Rotary International Convention in Atlanta. Rotary and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation have been working together on polio eradication for a long time, and our strong partnership will continue through the final years of the effort.

Bill and his wife, Melinda, in their just released Annual Letter, offer a glimpse of their appreciation for Rotary and the incredible progress we’ve made toward polio eradication through our joint efforts with national governments, UNICEF, the World Health Organization, and the U.S. Center for Disease Control and Prevention.

With the most effective resources in place, it’s possible that we have seen, or soon will see, the last case of polio in history. At the convention, Bill will say more about how we can — and will — end polio together.
