Aug 13 – Our Next Rotary Meeting
Don Edmands will join us and talk about his personal involvement while on duty September 11, 2001. Don was an active duty officer on 9-11 and will share what transpired over the course of that dreaded day.
Rotary meetings are open to the public. If you would like to join us, please reach out by Tuesday at noon so we we can include you in our catered lunch count. For more information, please contact John or Sue Everson at 423-884-3369. Social distancing will be observed at our meetings.
July 30 – Friends of Momance
From her office in Chattanooga via a Zoom connection, Belinda Crisman of Friends of Momance gave us an update on COVID-19 in the village of Momance, Haiti. The School has been closed since March but their breakfast and lunch program continue to feed about 150 students daily. The teachers and volunteers have been helping the students learn the best sanitation practices to help them minimize the spread of Wuhan Virus.
July 23 – Our PLACE Update
Jim Dezzutti with Our PLACE joined us for lunch and gave an excellent update of fundraising for Our PLACE’s building fund. At this time, they have raised almost $140,000 of their $200,000 goal. Once the goal is reached, the land will be turned over to Our PLACE and they can move forward with building.
Jim mentioned that in Loudon and Monroe Counties, with a high percentage of residents over 65, over 14,000 people are effected by Alzheimer’s or some other form of Dementia. That number includes people with the disease as well as people who are now their caretakers.
July 16 – District Governor ‘Visit’
District Governor Ron Appuhn held a Zoom meeting with us to go over our accomplishments and our goals for the coming year. The best part was reviewing our past year by Past President Ron Randle. We certainly accomplished many projects and gave 2 scholarships to worthy students along with large donations to local charities who work with and help feed children. And also to our school building project in Momance, Haiti.
